Wednesday Comics #4 a Twitter Review.

Batman= Smooth. Cool to see Bat-pants charm the ladies and play detective at the same time. Azzarello nails this stuff.
Kamandi= Beautiful. Amazing. "There shall be no escape from the hands of Baaku!" Oh yeah? Don't mess with my man Tuftan.
Superman= Please end Emo Superman now. Only Mark Waid, Grant Morrison or Shannon Smith should be allowed to write Superman.
Deadman= Fantastic. WAP! FWOOSH! SKREEE! Good fun.
Green Lantern= Forgivable. They slowed down this week to inject a plot into the story. I guess plots are okay.
Metamorpho= Now that's better. Nice to see Neil showed up and wrote something for this week. I love it when things happen.
Teen Titans= Weak. I want this too be good but the colors are so weak. Blue Beetle is grey. I'm guessing he should be blue.
Strange Adventures= Crazy awesome. Crazy @pulphope space girl on a crazy Paul Pope space horse thing. "Send forth the flyers!"
Supergirl= Very nice. Funny. Love Streaky. "What is wrong with you super pets?" I suggest Meow Mix.
Metal Men= Umm. I don't know. It's just kinda, ugh. Are they going to be in this bank for the next 8 weeks? C'mon.
Wonder Woman= I just can't even read it. Is Wonder Woman ever going to be in this comic? I like the Little Mermaid and all...
Sgt. Rock= Comfort comics. Not a lot of story progress this week but I'm happy to enjoy each panel of Joe Kubert goodness.
Flash= Now we're getting somewhere. Smart stuff. Poor Iris. And... Gorilla Grodd! This is shaping up to be some great Flash.
Demon & Catwoman= Pretty cool. Better. I like Stelfreeze's Demon. Colors are kinda murky but it's got a horror vibe.

All in all another good comic. Still, overpriced by about $2.50. There are some weak links in this thing but Pope, Gibbons, Sook, Azzarello and Baker make up for the other guys. You make a book with those guys in it and I'm there. I'm sold. But, I still wish DC had brought some more heavy hitters. They could make a statement with this book but instead they give you a lame emo Superman with some of the ugliest colors ever and an unreadable Wonder Woman comic that does not even have Wonder Woman in it. Superman should be pranking Lois, out thinking Lex, goofing with Jimmy, punching out a gorilla, wearing funky disguises, traveling through time and saving the world all in about three panels. That's what Superman is. That's what Superman does. That's who Superman is. And as far as Wonder Woman goes, well, I mean, dang, having Wonder Woman in the comic would be a start.

Wednesday Comics #3 a Twitter Review.

I've been excited about Wednesday Comics since I first heard about it. I love newsprint and newspaper comics. I love the color, texture and smell of newsprint. It makes me happy. I also love creators like Paul Pope and characters like Adam Strange and Kamandi. Throw that all together and you can bet I will want it. However, I'm not fortunate enough to make it to comic shops very often so I missed the first issue. I did manage to pick up the 2nd and 3rd issue recently. I don't really cover a lot of mainstream comics stuff here or at file under other but I though it would be fun to tweet about this one as I read it. So I did. What follows is just a copy and paste of my tweets on this issue. I may or may not do this more often or not in the future. You can follow me on twitter just in case I do. So, here's what I thunked:
Batman= great. Azzarello and Risso are a perfect Batman team.
Kamandi= Genius. Perfect script, art, lettering, colors. Perfect comics. Beautiful. Other comics bow before your master.
Superman= unreadable. Bermejo can draw but the script is like an imitation of a script. Amateur. The colors are so ugly.
Deadman= Good fun. #3 really uses the big page well. Great looking stuff. Not enough story yet to make sense of it.
Green Lantern= super cool. New Frontier style. I've never got the GL fandom but if all the comics were this good I would.
Metamorpho= missed opportunity. The Allreds give beautiful art but Gaiman forgot the story. I hope they did not pay Neil.
Teen Titans= bland. I don't like that coloring style at all. Boring. My 7 year old Teen Titan fan daughter gave it a "meh".

Strange Adventures= Awe inspiring. THINGS HAPPEN IN EVERY PANEL! Dear comics community. Paul Pope is better than you.
Supergirl= You had me at Supergirl. Supergirl acting like, ya know, a girl? Check! Streaky? Check! + Krypto?! Hooray!
Metal Men= Ugh. I like the idea of it but the script is an impersonation of what an amateur thinks a comic should be like.
Wonder Woman= Colossal Fail. Unreadable. Wonder Woman is not even in it. Bad coloring. Worst Little Mermaid story ever.
Sgt. Rock= Yep, that's Sgt. Rock. Every thing I love about those comics made new again. Makes me want to buy old comics.
Flash= Pretty good. Fun with a laugh or two. Not the best Flash I've ready but pretty good. We can't all be Infantino.
Demon & Catwoman= Average DC comic. Formula. Nothing special. Stelfreeze draws a nice hag though.

Hawkman= KA-THOOM! Now that's comics! I heart Kyle Baker. This one page has two of the best panels I've ever seen. Wow.

Wednesday Comcis #3 conclusion= Great! Love the format. Kamandi! Pope! Baker! Wish it came delivered to my house every day.
One more thing I'll add that I did not tweet is that this thing should really cost about $1.00 but more importantly it should come out every week for ever and be on sale at every grocery store, newsstand, bus stop, etc. and it should be available for home delivery. Then, and only then, I might have hope for mankind.

You should probably go ahead and follow me on twitter.

Ah twitter. The biggest thing to hit nerdkind since Mountain Dew and Cool Ranch Doritos. Befuddling newscasters and uniting armature intronet TV critics. Yes pals, it's true. I do get my tweet on. Now I know you are thinking, "But Shannon, I already schedule my day around reading your blogs and I enjoy witnessing you punch awesome in it's face on a non-daily basis. But, I don't think I could take much more awesome punching in my life. Maybe I'll just take a nap instead." Oh silly you. I know you can take more awesome. You and I were born for awesome. (Not those other guys though. They were born for lame.) And I know you are wondering "what more could Shannon's twitter page offer that his blogs don't already excel at?" Well, here is what I use twitter for; anytime I post something new at one of my blogs I will post a link on twitter so that you don't miss one second of the awesome. But wait there's more! Let's say I read some sort of mainstream comic or pop culture nonsense and I just want to post a random thought about it as opposed to a long blog post. Well, twitter is the perfect place for that sort of meaningless nonsense that keeps teh intronets on fire. And twitter automatically updates my facebook status so if I post some amazing one sentence breakdown of some random Archie comic, cure cancer or invent a new flavor of Doritos you can go to my facebook page and git yer comment on. Amazing huh? twitter does it all folks. Its digital Sham Wow! And I know you are thinking, "well how much does all this awesome cost?". It's free! Believe it!
Wow!
Exclamation point!
