The semi-annual save Shannon's kids' Christmas fundraiser.

I should probably call this a kickstarter right?  People love to throw money at that junk right?  Oh well, it's not a kickstarter.  This is me selling my goods and services to you so that I may go and give that money to Monster High and La La Loopsy.  Commerce!  America! Yayy!

Basically, it is that time of year that I dig through the basement and turn my old stuff into new stuff for the kids.  Right now I'm selling a couple of old Star Wars theatrical posters.
The top poster is the real deal yo.  A Star Wars theatrical poster from 1977.  The 2nd photo is a reproduction of the real deal, a copy of the original teaser poster.  The copy was made in the late 70s or early 80s.  Both are super rad and awesome and you probably won't make it to 2013 alive without owning them.

I'll probably dig out some other things, comics toys etc.  But, what I would prefer to do rather than sell you my old stuff is draw new stuff for you.  That's right, I will draw pretty much anything you can imagine for $10 and up.

I'm going to try to draw a lot over the next weeks.  These will be amazing drawings that you will want to pay money for.  So, check back often and make sure there is plenty of money on your credit cards and pay pal accounts.

Thanks!

Now taking requests for original color art.

I'm now taking commissions for original color art.  I usually end up doing a lot of this sort of thing around the holidays.  It makes for great gifts.  So far, I've just been doing it by request for folks I know or for folks that heard about me through word of mouth.  But, I figured I'd make this service available for all the good peoples of teh intronets as well.  The basic package I'm offering is just $25 and includes an original finished drawing based on your request complete with a color digital copy. I will pencil and ink the drawing on 8 1/2 x 11 inch cardstock paper. Then I will create a digital color version of the art. You will be mailed the original paper drawing and emailed a copy of the color file in whatever format you prefer. jpg etc. Perfect for your website or social networking avatar needs.  The original drawing on cardstock will be perfect for framing.  Please include a brief description of what you would like me draw in your request. Examples of my art can be seen here or on the "portfolio" tab above.  I will maintain the copyright and print rights to the image but you own the original and can use it online for whatever you would like as long as it does not cause me harm. Email me with any questions you may have.  I'm also open to creating art for you in other sizes/formats/etc.  This is just the basic package.  If you have something else in mind then just shoot me an email.  Oh, and if you don't need color, I also have a basic package for black and white line art.

I look forward to drawing you something fantastical.

Your best pal ever,

Shannon Smith

Original Small Bible art for sale!

I am offering nine pages of original art from my Small Bible minicomic over at my Crooked Finger Press store.  These are the original one of a kind drawings in pencil and pen on 8 1/2 X 11" card stock.  They are perfect for framing and would make a perfect gift for any Bible art fan or fan of awesome looking stuff. The prices are flat out stupid cheap for original art.  Of all my comics work so far, these are the pages of which I am most proud.

Rob Clough of Sequart, High-Low and The Comics Journal online had this to say about the comic:

"This is a clever mini that's about points of view and description. Taking key portions of the Old Testament, Smith quotes extensively from Stephen's Defense in the Book of Acts, then quotes the original scripture, then provides an illustration--all in just 9 pages. It's a clever comic that's both a straightforward depiction of an event, and a commentary as an interpretation of an interpretation of an event that may or may not have happened--but has enormous importance. Joann Sfar's Rabbi character in THE RABBI'S CAT described Judaism as different from Western (Hegelian) thought, which is thesis, antithesis, synthesis. The history of Jewish thought, he explained, is thesis, antithesis, antithesis, antithesis, and so on. This mini is another step in the argument, providing a visual interpretation of the events that is action-oriented on nearly every page. An angel dramatically swoops in to prevent Abraham from sacrificing Isaac; Moses gets a magic glowing staff from god that cures snake bites; various epic battles are fought. Smith gets across the quite visceral experience of reading the Old Testament, a tact that is quite different from the purposes of either Stephen or the original Torah. It's quite a clever little project."

Please check out the original art category of my little store to take a look at all the pages.

If you know anyone that might be interested in these pages then please spread the word.  Thanks pals!

When you buy my comics I mail you random sketches.

(As they say on teh intronets, click to enlarge.)

As long as time allows, I try to throw in a free sketch with the comics purchased on my online store. The image above is a pencil sketch I did this week based on a couple of images in a Jack Kirby 2001 comic. It's basically just an exercise in copying The King's style. There is absolutely nothing original about it but it was fun to draw.
This is a random sketch of Saul from the Old Testament. I think he is one of the most interesting people in the Bible. If I ever had the time I would like to do a comic about him so I've played around with what he should look like several times over the past few years. I don't think this is it. Far too handsome.
To get your own free sketch you can either buy my comics or play Mailcon. Getting stuff in the mail is awesome.

Save Christmas. Buy my toys and comics.

It's that time of year again where I start worrying about where the money for my kid's Christmas presents is going to come from. Well, hopefully it will come from my basement. As in, I need to sell everything in my basement. Now what does that have to do with you? Everything. You are the ones that need to buy everything in my basement. Now I could just post this stuff on eBay but I want to avoid that. I've been selling stuff on eBay for a long time and I always, always, always loose money. eBay sucks folks. All your money for your prized possessions goes to eBay, Pay Pal and the post office. So, I'm thinking about just posting stuff on here and letting my pals make me offers on it and they buy the stuff straight up. Yeah, you can still pay by Pal Pal and I'll still be paying the post office but at least we can cut out eBay right? One out of three ain't bad.
Now the next matter of business. What do I have for sell. I think a better question would be, what do you want to buy? Simply put, if it was made for nerds between about 1978 and 2001 I've probably got it in my basement. Toys, comics, junk etc. You tell, me. What are you looking for. Seriously, if there is some nerd junk you need I might just have it. Send me an email and we'll work it out.
Here's some random junk I have down there just to give you an idea:

  • Just about every Star Wars toy Kenner/Hasbro made between 1978 and 2001. The original stuff, the Power of the Force stuff and the Prequel stuff up to when my daughter was born in 2002 and I had to stop buying toys for myself. I'm serious. Ask. I've probably got it. It would take me a month to catalog it and post a list so just ask and I'll go dig and see what I have and what shape it is in. Most all of the 90's and 00's stuff is mint in package. I'd rather cut off one of my toes than to sell it but the kids want Christmas and no one seems to want to buy one of my toes. (I will sell a couple of toes if anyone is looking though. Seriously. The dang things have brought me nothing but trouble.)
  • Super hero junk. I've got a bunch of Secret Wars stuff from the 80s. X-Men and other Marvel hero stuff from the 90's. Total Justice and JLA figures from the 90's.
  • Tron. Yeah, that's right. I've got Tron toys.
  • Clash of the Titans. Yeah, I've got that too. Need a Kraken? I got yer Kraken.
  • Beatles. I've got those Yellow Submarine toys.
  • Kiss. I've got the big honkin' Todd McFarlane things.
  • X-Files. You need X-Files toys don't cha? How can you remember the 90's without them. You can't. That's how. You can't.
  • Comics. Great googly moogly I don't even know where to begin. I've got about 2000 comics down there from the 70's through yesterday. Big runs of the Uncanny X-Men, Iron Man and lots of other random junk. Marvel, DC, Image and indie stuff. Just ask and I'll check and see if I have it and I'll make you a deal.
I'd also consider selling my prized possession. A 1989 American Standard Fender Stratocaster. Yep. That's right. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best guitar ever made. Right before they went to those gosh awful satin necks. It is American made, Olympic white with a pearloid pickguard, maple neck and a lace sensor in the bridge. It's got some nicks and scratches that's because it's a real guitar that has been played. Those give it character. Seriously. I'd rather jab out my eyes than sell it but no one is buying eyes. (Just let me know if you know anyone that is buying eyes. The dang things have brought me nothing but trouble.)

So yeah. Like, buy my stuff. Seriously. I'll cut you an awesome deal. If you are looking for any of these awesome nerd items or any other junk I might happen to have, just shoot me an email. Oh, and I make comics and sell them too. Great stocking stuffers for children 18 and older.

New minicomic. Small Bible: The Old Testament. On sale now!

I have completed a new minicomic and you can buy it here. The book summarizes the Old Testament in nine pages using an abbreviation of Stephen's Defense from the book of acts, Old Testament scripture and interpretive illustrations by your truly. My intention was to make an Old Testament primer for those that enjoy action comics but would not normally dive into something like, oh say, the book of Numbers. It has some fun drawings that demonstrate a unique take on things. Well, I hope they do. You can see some of the unfinished penciled pages here on this blog. I'll post some finished examples soon. Thanks to everyone at Fluke that bought a copy. Let me know what you think of it.

New Foldy For Sale

I've added a new three page foldy to my web shop page. Regular pals of the site (and anyone in Shiot Crock 13) may have already seen the comics in this one but for those completeists who must have the entire foldy collection, then click, click, click, buy, buy, buy! I've also updated the shop a little. All the foldies are just fifty cents each now. Unfortunately, a few of the books on the page are out of print at this point but fear not, all the good stuff (and a bunch of new stuff) will be collected in my first big thick book Sleepwalker. Hopefully in your hands this spring.

A-Symmetrical O-Possum For Sale.

Saturday (and on into Sunday night) I made up a new mini-comic foldy for the next Shiot Crock. In the interest of not ruining the element of surprise for other Crock contributors, I will not post the comic on this website but you can buy a copy of it here if you are not a Shiot Crockster. Why does it cost 75 cents if my other foldys just cost 25 cents? Well, I sell the other foldys for 25 cents because the intention is for them to be an add-on to larger purchases. Now, some folks may have already bought the other comics and may just want the new foldy so I need to charge a little more just to cover the cost of the stamp. If you see me at a show, I'll still sale the foldy for a quarter.
